Steps for Creating and Configuring a Dial Up Networking Connection

  1. Double click My Computer, this is on your desktop window.
  2. Double click on Dial Up Networking
  3. Double click on Make New Connection
  4. Type in a name for the connection. For example "Sun Dot"
  5. Click Next
  6. Enter the access telephone number for your city, see below.

    CITY Phone number
    Grand Forks  7879665
    Fargo  4517965
    Bismarck 2505345
Other Cities  go to www.sdcomm.net and select the local number finder option.
  7. Click Next
  8. Click Finish
  9. A new icon will appear in the Dial Up Networking Window. Right-click on the new icon and click on Properties
  10. The next screen will display the general properties of the dialer. Verify that the phone number is correct. Also note that if you are within local calling distance of your service provider, make sure that you are not dialing the country code or area code.  The box with “Use area code and Dialing Properties” should not be selected.
  11. Select the "Server Types" tab and you should have only the following boxes checked:  "Enable software compression" and "TCP/IP".  None of the other boxes are required to be checked.
  12. Click OK to close the window.
  13. Double click on the icon you just created to open it.  If your dialup plan is the  150 hour plan after your username you will need to add @entnix.com, i.e. username@entnix.com.  Or if your dialup plan is the unlimited plan after your username you will need to add @isponly.net, i.e. username@isponly.net. This is necessary to route the authentication request to the correct server.   Your connection will not work without the realm after your username.   Also you can enter your password and select save password to not have to enter the password every time you start your dial-up connection.
  14. If you want to place a shortcut on the desktop, you can simply right-click on the new connection that has been created, and click on Create Shortcut. You will get a message that says "Windows cannot create a shortcut here. Do you want the shortcut to be placed on the desktop instead? .... Click Yes
12.    Your Dial-Up networking setup should now be complete.
